Kingwest Resources Ltd (ASX:KWR) has completed extensional drilling at the Sir Laurence gold discovery at Lake Goongarrie within the Goongarrie Gold Project in Western Australia, identifying bedrock mineralisation in three different host rocks over a 2-kilometre by 1-kilometre strike length.
The company has completed 62 aircore holes from 4,065 metres, intercepting notable gold in every line of drilling with assays including:
- 24 metres at 0.6 g/t gold from 48 metres including 4 metres at 3.2 g/t from 60 metres;
- 13 metres at 0.9 g/t from 60 metres including 1-metre at 4.5 g/t from 72 metres;
- 4 metres at 1.02 g/t from 64 metres; and
- 3 metres at 1.1 g/t gold from 72 metres.
The mineralisation remains open in all directions, as no drill holes so far have intersected the edge of the mineralised body.
Next phase of drilling ‘critical’
“This extensional aircore drilling has continued to grow the Sir Laurence gold discovery and we have still not defined the limits of gold mineralisation,” Kingwest Resources CEO Ed Turner said.
“It is very encouraging to intercept bedrock mineralisation as well as alluvial gold mineralisation over such a large area and in different host rocks.
“This demonstrates the significant size of the mineralised system, and the growth potential remains.
“The planned initial diamond core drilling program has been expanded to 4,000 metres as a result of these successful aircore drill results and a further expansion is foreseeable.
“However, the start of the program continues to experience delays due to ongoing COVID related personnel and equipment related issues which are being experienced across the industry. Drilling will commence as soon as the necessary lake terrain modifications to the rig are complete.
“This next phase of drilling will be a critical program in delineating the primary mineralised controls within Sir Laurence so we will be in a position to potentially define economic gold resources in the future.”
The initial stage of diamond drilling will target Sir Laurence’s primary bedrock mineral lodes in an attempt to delineate orientation, grade and continuity.
As stated, the program start date is yet to be confirmed due to COVID-related delays.
