Apple pulls products and limits services in Russia

Sales of products like iPhone, iPad and Macs halted while Pay and Maps services limited

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) has halted sales of its products in Russia, as the corporate exodus from Russia continues amid unprecedented sanctions following its invasion of Ukraine.

The company also limited the use of its Apple Pay and Apple Maps services, while removing Russian state-funded publishers like RT News and Sputnik from its app store.

“We are deeply concerned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and stand with all of the people who are suffering as a result of the violence,” the company said in a statement.

Apple disabled both traffic and live incidents in its Apple Maps services in Ukraine “as a safety and precautionary measure for Ukrainian citizens.”

The decision follows that of other tech giants Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) to limit their services in Russia as companies follow Western sanctions in putting economic and cultural pressure on the country.

Apple’s revenues in Ukraine were estimated at US$2.5bn in 2020, equivalent to 0.9% of the company’s total sales that year.
