YouTube follows Facebook to restrict Russian state-owned media channels

Twitter Inc will label tweets that incorporate content from Russia’s state-controlled media, while also limiting their visibility

YouTube, which is owned by Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google, said Tuesday it will stop Russian state-owned media outlets Sputnik and RT from releasing content to Europe, with immediate effect, due to the country’s continued invasion of Ukraine.

Although, a YouTube spokesperson said: "It'll take time for our systems to fully ramp up.

“Our teams continue to monitor the situation around the clock to take swift action."

This comes just a day after Facebook’s parent Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) also said it will restrict access to the two television networks for European Union members.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) will label tweets that incorporate content from Russia’s state-controlled media, while also limiting their visibility.
