White Rock Minerals Ltd (ASX:WRM, OTCQX:WRMCF) has intersected notable gold mineralisation from drilling at Dickenson South target within the Morning Star underground gold mine in Victoria, Australia, indicating there may be strong potential for an additional mining area within the underground complex.
The newly identified area has a potential strike length of 100 metres, with up to 50 metres of down-dip extension, at the southern margin of the dyke, adjacent to the Dickenson Reef.
Assays from this new Dickenson Reef Hangingwall structure returned 1.6 metres at 11.1 g/t gold, including 0.2 metres at 92.2 g/t. Other highlight assays from the greater Dickenson Reef included:
- 1.2 metres at 24.4 g/t, including 0.2 metres at 57.5 g/t (true width); and
- 1.6 metres at 10.6 g/t, including 0.6 metres at 27.3 g/t (true width).
Similarly high-grade intersections were received from the Age of Progress and Stacpoole reefs:
- 3.8 metres at 5.5 g/t, including 0.6 metres at 19.5 g/t (true width); and
- 3.3 metres at 2.7 g/t, including 0.4 metres at 7.5 g/t (true width).
Restarting the mine
White Rock’s primary objective at Morning Star within the Woods Point Project is to resume mining and production activities at the site with a low capital expenditure from multiple reef locations.
The company has sought to achieve this by targeting mineralisation close to the surface and with access to existing underground infrastructure.
To date, 11 diamond drill holes have been completed for 2,183 metres, testing mineralised reefs including Age of Progress, Stacpoole, Exhibition, Shamrock, Dickenson and Whitelaw, between surface and Level 6.
The new high-grade zone at the Dickenson Reef Hangingwall structure further reinforces White Rock’s confidence that there is sufficiently well-placed and economically sized gold mineralisation to restart the mine in the near-term without the need for extensive capital work.
