Russia has reacted to Europe banning Russian-owned or controlled planes on Sunday from its skies by imposing its own ban on 36 countries, including Canada, Italy and Spain.
Europe had announced on Sunday that Russian planes would be banned from taking off or landing in its countries, as well as flying over its airspace.
The ban imposed by the European nations also encompassed private jets, including those owned by oligarchs.
The UK had already been banned by Russia when it imposed its own restrictions on Aeroflot, its national airline, last Thursday.
Rosaviatisa, the Russian aviation regulator, said today, “A restriction has been imposed on flights for airlines of 36 countries in accordance with international law as a retaliatory measure for the ban imposed by the European states on the flights of commercial airliners operated by Russian airlines and/or registered in Russia."
