A NetScientific PLC (AIM:NSCI) subsidiary has recorded positive results in safety trials of its treatment for head and neck cancer.
PDS Biotech said its candidate drug PDS0101, in combination with prescription drug Keytruda, was likely safe and well tolerated without significant toxicity in the first 18 patients evaluated on the phase 2 safety study.
The company said the safety trial resulted in the absence of dose-limiting toxicities, drug discontinuation related to toxicity, or immune-related adverse events.
The trial is intended to treat recurrent or metastatic HPV16-positive head and neck cancer, referring to the human papillomavirus infection linked to cancer.
"We are encouraged by the preliminary safety data of PDS0101 in combination with KEYTRUDA® for patients with recurrent or metastatic HPV16-positive head and neck cancer,” said Dr. Lauren Wood, chief medical officer of PDS Biotech.
"These data and the preliminary efficacy data continue to support the unique combination of safety and potency of our novel Versamune platform."
The positive findings add good momentum to the company, having recorded positive preliminary results from its phase 2 trial earlier this month.
NetScientific closed trading yesterday at 62p prior to the release of safety tests, a 2% fall against close on Wednesday.
