Wizz Air Holdings PLC (AIM:WIZZ) is to continue flying to Ukraine despite Russian premier Vladimir Putin ordering Russian troops to enter the country.
A spokesperson for the London-listed budget airline quoted in the Telegraph said that it “is committed to continuing to fly to Ukraine and the country remains an important part of our growth plans."
Expansion in Ukraine is key to expansion plans for Wizz Air said executives and is part of the company’s plan to triple its fleet to 500 planes by the end of the decade.
Chief executive Jozsef Varadi said last month that “Ukraine has been performing as a very strong market, and we have been following that through, be it additional investments into the network and deployment of aircraft in the marketplace.”
The move sets it apart from other Western airlines such Swiss Air and Lufthansa, which announced over the weekend they would be suspending flights due to concerns over passenger safety.
Competitor Ryanair has also scaled back its services to the area, with chief executive Michael O’Leary saying it would continue to fly to the country for as long as war does not break out.
Shares in Wizz Air were down 2.37% in afternoon trading, changing hands at 3950p.
