Crossword Cybersecurity secures new maritime certification

Certification from IASME adds to IoT and CFF approval for company's Rizikon platform

Cybersecurity firm Crossword Cybersecurity PLC (AIM:CCS) (Crossword Cybersecurity PLC (AIM:CCS)) said its technology was selected as the core platform to support a new Maritime Security certification.

The IASME Consortium, a body that helps to improve cyber security in SMEs, selected Crossword Cybersecurity's third-party assurance platform Rizikon as the core service to support a new Maritime Cyber Baseline at scale.

Crossword, which provided cybersecurity software and consultancy services, saw its share price rise by more than 2% to 35.25p in early trading following the news.

The Maritime Cyber Baseline Scheme is designed to allow shipping operators and vessel owners improve their cyber security to reduce the likelihood of a cyber-attack disrupting their day-to-day operations.

It is supported by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), and ensures compliance with the IMO Maritime Cyber Risk Management guidelines.

"We are delighted to be further strengthening our partnership with IASME in an area of cyber security that needs standardisation, and with this Maritime Cyber Baseline it is an excellent opportunity for operators to start driving up cyber maturity," Tom Ilube CBE, chief executive officer at Crossword, said.

The maritime breakthrough follows Crossword’s IASME-approved certifications for Internet of Things (IoT) and Counter Fraud Fundamentals(CFF).

Dr Emma Philpott MBE , chief executive officer at IASME Consortium, said: “We already using Crossword's Rizikon platform successfully on our IoT and CFF certifications so are confident that the platform will be ideal for this new scheme covering such an important area in the maritime sector."

Rizikon was launched by Crossword last year, with the company’s 2021 interim accounts, published in September, indicating a ten-fold increase through 2021 in the number of organisations using the platform, with 300 users assessing nearly 4,000 suppliers.
