Elon Musk said the cost of sending one of his SpaceX rockets into orbit should be six times cheaper by 2025 during a presentation at the company’s Texas facility last night.
Starship, the company’s largest rocket, should be able to enter space for less than US$10mln within the next three years, the billionaire said.
Currently, SpaceX charges private customers anywhere between US$60mln-US$65mln for a launch its smaller ships, such as the Falcon 9, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Previously, the company has said Starship would be reserved for its biggest and most ambitious missions, even flirting with the idea of a trip to Mars.
Like the company's other rockets, Starship is designed to be reused many times, offering the potential to deliver hundreds of the company's own Starlink satellites and other space company's payloads into orbit at once.
