Caracal Gold adds Africa mining specialist as part of board restructure

Rachel Johnston has over 10 years of experience working with mining companies in the region

Caracal Gold PLC (LSE:GCAT) said it had strengthened its board with the appointment of Rachel Johnston as a non-executive director, taking effect from 1 March.

The gold producer said Johnston brings ‘a wealth of experience’ to the board, having held various roles in Africa’s mining sector for over a decade.

Currently, Johnston is an independent consultant on sustainability, advising mining companies on stakeholder engagement and sustainability reporting.

She also supervises environmental and social impact assessments and the implementation of environmental, social, and governance programs and initiatives.

“Her wealth of experience across Africa speaks for itself and her skills in environmental and social governance will be well utilised, as we push ahead with our development plan at Kilimapesa Gold operations,” said chief executive Robbie McCrae

Previous roles include corporate social responsibility (CSR) manager at Endeavour Mining, CSR consultant at True Gold Mining and chief executive of Sahara Geoservices.

In addition, non-executive directors Charles Tatnall and James Longley have submitted resignations which were effective from 5 February, as part of the company’s restructure, the statement said.

"As part of the restructuring of the Board, I wish to take this opportunity to thank both Charles and James for their major contribution through the listing process last year, and I wish them well in their future endeavours,” McCrae added.
