FYI Resources Ltd (ASX:FYI) and EcoGraf Ltd (ASX:EGR, OTCQX:ECGFF) have unveiled what they describe as “outstanding results” from their enhanced high purity alumina (HPA) anode coatings development program.
Recently, the ASX listers commissioned a leading, US-based battery materials hub to roll out a technical trial that would marry up EcoGraf’s HFfree spherical graphite and FYI’s innovative ultrafine 4N HPA to create HPA-doped coated spherical graphite.
From here, the facility measured the coatings’ performance on an industry-standard lithium-ion coin cell, mirroring the same battery technologies that are used to power electric vehicles (EVs).
Promisingly, the program generated coatings that meet the tech specs of leading battery manufacturers.
What’s more, studies show the electrochemical performance of the FYI enhanced HPA-doped coated anode in lithium-ion coin cells has achieved higher first charge capacity, reduced first cycle loss and increased battery charge efficiency — outperforming industry standard material and the standard coated anode.
The following table presents the lithium-ion coin cell electrochemical performance results benchmarked against current industry anode material from China.
Now, an independent evaluation process has kicked off with partners and battery manufacturers on the samples produced in the trial.
Looking out, FYI’s broader program objective is to develop a commercial, innovative active anode material (AAM) hub in Western Australia, adding further value to its materials for the larger lithium-ion battery market.
Commenting on the HPA coated anode trial results, FYI managing director Roland Hill said: “The initial FYI coated anode test-work results are outstanding and demonstrate the potential of further development on this project.
“We are particularly encouraged by the out-performance of our developed anode technology In relation to the current market leader.
“With our partner Ecograf, we will continue the development of this exciting technology and its growing application into the e-mobility sector.”
In a statement today, FYI said the program’s results are very positive and deliver a better performing material that will improve a battery’s performance, durability and safety.
FYI shares have been as much as 12.1% higher this morning to A$0.325.
