PyroGenesis Canada and HPQ Silicon Resources to supply 4N silicon material samples for high-performance material company

The firms inked a non-disclosure agreement to make samples using material produced by the PUREVAP Quartz Reduction Reactor pilot plant, which is scheduled to start at the end of the first quarter of 2022

PyroGenesis Canada Inc and its technology partner HPQ Silicon Resources Inc announced they have signed a new agreement to prepare 4N silicon material samples for an unnamed high-performance material company.

The firms said they had inked a non-disclosure agreement to make samples using material produced by the PUREVAP Quartz Reduction Reactor (QRR) pilot plant, which is scheduled to start at the end of the first quarter of 2022.

The 4N Silicon material will be tested for usage as potential feedstock for the manufacturing of silicon nitride (Si3N4) ceramics, HPQ reported.

Si3N4 is a refractory material that is chemically inert and can resist extremely high temperatures. It is used in advanced high-tech materials to make robust components with very specific requirements, such as wind turbines, bicycles, and high-end cars.

HPQ and PyroGenesis were approached by a representative of the high-performance material company seeking samples of its 4N silicon material to test as feedstock to make silicon nitride ceramics, HPQ CEO Bernard Tourillon told investors.

“This is just one example of the many niche market applications that production from our PUREVAP QRR process can potentially supply,” Tourillon said in a statement.

PyroGenesis designs, develops, manufactures and commercializes advanced plasma processes and sustainable solutions that reduce greenhouse gases. Its technology is suited for iron ore pelletization, aluminum, waste management, and additive manufacturing.
