1.Shell rejoices in rising oil prices
Shell PLC (LSE:SHEL, NYSE:SHEL, EURONEXT:SHELL) will turn over most of its burgeoning profits to a bulked-up share buy-back programme which will now repurchase some US$8.5bn in the first half of 2022.
2.Meta shares down 26%
Shares in Meta Platforms Inc , the owner of Facebook, Instagram and Oculus, plummeted 26% in opening trades in New York today, sending its valuation down below US$900bn after user numbers were revealed to have declined for the first time in its 18-year history.
3.BoE interest rates up to 0.5%
The Bank of England (BoE), as analysts expected, raised interest rates again to 0.5% on Thursday afternoon, its first back-to-back UK hike since 2004.
4.FTSE 100 closes in the red
FTSE 100 closed down 54 points, or 0.71%, at 7,528.84, just above the session low of 7,528.69 and below the peak of 7,605.75.
