Playtech PLC (LSE:PTEC) said it has been told by a potential suitor that an offer is being considered, just after shareholders voted down a proposed bid by Australia's Aristocrat Leisure.
In a statement this morning, the FTSE 250-listed gaming technology company said yesterday afternoon it was contacted by TTB Partners Limited, parent of Gopher Investments, which had made an approach in October and then withdrew in November when an Eddie Jordan-backed consortium became a third bidder.
Playtech said today that TTB told it that, as a consortium is being formed, it wanted to be released from restrictions under the London takeover rules "to allow a possible offer" for Playtech to be considered.
Under London's takeover code, after a suitor walks away from a bid they have to wait six months before making a new approach, though these restrictions are capable of being set aside at any point in certain circumstances, such as with the consent of the target's board.
The requested consent has been given and the London-listed outfit said while there is no certainty this will result in an offer, "any offer, if made, is likely to be in cash".
