Magnis Energy Technologies’ partner launches LiSER technology, Magnis strengthens board

LiSER technology offers a cost, safety and voltage advantage over traditional lithium-ion battery cells, while also maintaining or exceeding industry standards of energy density, chargability and sustainability.

Magnis Energy Technologies Ltd (ASX:MNS, OTCQX:MNSEF)’s technology partner Charge CCCV (C4V) has launched its Lithium Slim Energy Reserve (LiSER) technology. Magnis, a vertically integrated lithium-ion battery company, has a 9.65% shareholding in C4V.

Magnis Energy has made several strategic investments in aspects of the electrification supply chain, including manufacturing of green credentialled lithium-ion battery cells, leading-edge lithium-ion battery technology, and high-quality, high-performance anode materials.

The company’s vision is to enable, support and accelerate the green energy transition critical for the adoption of electric mobility and renewable energy storage.

LiSER technology

LiSER is an in-house patented battery cell design that allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bypass modules and build the battery pack directly.

This platform includes designs for long and slim cells with super-fast charge and discharge capabilities without losing the energy density benefits.

Magnis claims that LiSER allows OEMs to achieve the maximum cell-to-pack ratio while maintaining performance, minimising the need for complicated cell arrays and management electronics.

Touted as an industry-first “tab-less” advanced prismatic cell design, LiSER has an in-situ cooling loop to facilitate efficient temperature operations ranging from -40°C to 90°C, assisting in extra fast charging.

The tethered edges of the module come with a solid structural design that enables mechanical stability. The design’s high modularity allows it to cater to stringent market requirements (kilowatt-hours or megawatt-hours) without any bias for power or energy needs.

LiSER advantages

LiSER has eliminated the need for expensive cobalt and nickel in lithium-ion battery cells, providing an energy density of 190 watt-hours per kilogram (lithium batteries generally have 100-265 watt-hours per kilogram), making it what Magnis describes as “one of the market-leading technologies today".

This technology simplifies the module structure, using C4V’s bio-mineralised lithium mixed metal phosphate (BMLMP) technology.

BLMP is inherently oxygen deficient, improving battery safety while also delivering a voltage at least 20% higher than the lithium iron (ferrous) phosphate (LFP) currently widely used in the market.

LiSER uses elements that are environmentally friendly, sourced with a robust local supply-chain that enables a significantly lower carbon footprint.

Magnis board changes

Magnis Energy has made several board changes to assist with the high levels of growth the company is experiencing as it continues to progress in various sectors of the lithium-ion battery industry.

Giles Gunesekera has been appointed as independent non-executive director, bringing over 25 years’ experience in building and developing teams and businesses for global enterprises.

Gunesekera has held senior roles in the financial services industry spanning recruiting, training, product, distribution and leadership, and became founder and CEO of Global Impact Initiative, the only Impact Investing business in the world that is a United Nations LEAD Company.

Claire Bibby has also joined the board as an independent non-executive director, with more than 30 years of professional experience as a senior lawyer and executive coach.

Bibby has founded and co-founded several businesses covering the legal, executive coaching, property-tech and legal-tech spaces and has held senior management appointments with some of world’s largest companies and top-tier law firms.

Duncan Glasgow has been appointed general counsel and company secretary. Glasgow has over three decades of extensive experience in general counsel and company secretarial roles in both listed and non-listed entities.

He is a fellow of the Governance Institute and his experience covers sectors which include manufacturing, mining, oil and gas and international drilling.

Magnis Energy chair Frank Poullas commented: “We are thrilled to have Giles, Claire and Duncan joining Magnis.

“We have carefully selected all three individuals with specific skillsets that the board identified as we look forward to our exciting growth phase ahead.”
