Bitcoin rebounded from six-months lows as a ‘dead-cat bounce’ in global equity markets helped, for now at least, calm investor fears and prompted bargain hunters to take advantage of the 50% falls in some crypto currencies. Bitcoin was up 2.77% at US$36,000 in morning deals, having fallen below the key $33,000 level yesterday. Ethereum also found some support but peers Cardano and XRP continued to languish.
A bug in one of the largest NFT marketplaces allowed hackers to buy $1mln worth of the digital asset significantly below market value, according to blockchain analytics firm Elliptic. OpenSea, a popular site for buying and selling NFTs, notched up $4.8bn worth of sales in January so far, according to Reuters. However, a glitch allowed hackers to buy NFTs at a previously listed price, before selling at current market value without the owners realising until the transaction was complete.
