Antonio Horta-Osorio, the former boss of Lloyds Banking, has stepped down from his new role as chair of Credit Suisse after just nine months.
Horta-Osorio had been under investigation, reportedly for breaking broken Covid protocols in both Switzerland and the UK .the bank said today,
In a statement, Horta-Osorio said: "I regret that a number of my personal actions have led to difficulties for the bank and compromised my ability to represent the bank internally and externally.
"I therefore believe that my resignation is in the interest of the bank and its stakeholders at this crucial time."
Current board member Axel Lehmann has replaced him as chair
Reuters reported that Horta-Osorio had attended the Wimbledon tennis finals last year when he was required to be in isolation and failed to quarantine for long enough after a visit to Switzerland in November.
The Portuguese banker had been brought in to clean up Credit Suisse the Swiss bank after a series of scandals, losses and the high-profile departure of former chief executive Tidjane Thiam.
The bank racked up huge bad debts when lender Greensill and US hedge fund Archegos both collapsed last year.
