Recruiter.com Group says Recruiter Index for December 2021 reveals remote roles increased by 29%

The amount of remote roles recruiters have been working to fill increased by 29% in December 2021, surpassing hybrid roles for the first time

Recruiter.com Group Inc said its latest Recruiter Index for December 2021 has revealed that, after dipping in November, candidate and recruiter sentiments rose over the month.

Nearly 37% of recruiters noted an increase in applicant volume this month, jumping 60% since November, the company said.

The amount of remote roles recruiters have been working to fill increased by 29% in December, surpassing hybrid roles for the first time. This could be a result of new variants being introduced and the end of seasonal hiring, the company added.

Recruiter.com's CEO, Evan Sohn, said he believes the recruitment sector is starting to see the ‘great alignment' as the number of candidates prioritizing remote work and the number of remote positions increase.

"What needs to happen is this alignment of the company culture and company requirements to the candidates themselves," Sohn told CNBC'S The Exchange in an interview.

The New York-based company said candidate priorities have continued to shift as well, with its index finding a 39% increase in employees who prioritize remote working. Work-life balance (21%) and new experiences (13%) continue to be prioritized by candidates as well, while compensation has become less of a driving factor.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 4.5 million Americans quit or changed jobs in November, proving that the Great Resignation shows no signs of slowing. The company noted that backfill roles surpassed new roles in December (52 % to 48%), something only done in previously October 2021.

Employers are still struggling to keep up with the heightened churn that comes from this reshuffling in the job market, the company said.

Recruiter.com also noted that recruiters and talent acquisition professionals are now the second most in-demand industry. Other sectors that were hit hard in December included retail and hospitality.

The company noted that roles which were most in-demand included:

  • IT/software engineering: 16.6% (-6 from November)
  • Recruiting/ Staffing: 14.1% (+1 from November)
  • Architecture/engineering: 12.9% (-6 from November)
  • Medical/Healthcare: 11.7% (+3 from November)
  • Accounting/auditing: 9.8% (-6 from November)
  • Business Services: 8.6% (+2 from November)
  • Automotive: 3.1% (-2 from November)
  • Retail: 2.5% (-4 from November
  • Sales: 1.8% (-3 from November)
  • Hospitality: 0.6% (-3 from November)
