Kin Mining expands Mt Flora discovery with high-grade gold results from first diamond hole

Kin Mining NL (ASX:KIN) has returned strong high-grade results from the first diamond drill hole at Mt Flora that expand the discovery east of the 1.28-million-ounce Cardinia Gold Project (CGP) near Leonora in Western Australia.

Diamond drilling to test the deeper primary zone at Mt Flora intersected two zones of high-grade mineralisation and returned:

  • 5.3 metres at 6.49 g/t gold including 2.6 metres at 8.84 g/t from 188.3 metres; and
  • 8.1 metres at 2.58 g/t including 4.0 metres at 4.80 g/t from 54.0 metres.

These results have confirmed a down-dip extension of a previous 22-metres at 8.96 g/t aircore intersection and identified a new Eastern Zone at Mt Flora, which is 20 kilometres east of the main CGP.

“Outstanding result”

Kin Mining managing director Andrew Munckton said: “This represents an outstanding result from the first diamond hole drilled at Mt Flora, which was designed to test below near-surface high-grade intercepts returned from aircore drilling.

"The diamond hole returned high-grade assay results including 5.3 metres at 6.49 g/t gold from the interpreted down-dip mineralised position, confirming our view that the high-grade, near-surface mineralisation extends into the deeper primary zone.

“In addition, the diamond hole also intersected new mineralisation, with an intercept of 8.1 metres at 2.58 g/t gold including 4 metres at 4.80 g/t gold from 54 metres returned east of the main target in an area previously untested by drilling.”

Down-dip extension

The 5.3-metre intersection is interpreted to be the down-dip extension of the previous high-grade aircore results of 22 metres at 8.96 g/t and 8 metres at 2.79 g/t while the 8.1-metre intercept represents a new mineralised position in an area previously untested by drilling.

This diamond hole has confirmed the discovery of a zone of gold mineralisation around 700 metres long and up to 150 metres deep at the Eastern Zone and 400 metres long at the North-Western Zone.

Confirmation of the presence of a high-grade primary gold system beneath the aircore drilling is an important development, providing further confidence in the potential of the emerging Mt Flora discovery.

Satellite target

Mt Flora remains as a priority satellite exploration target for the company’s exploration team.

“These new results support our view that the Mt Flora Eastern Zone contains several mineralised lodes,” Munckton said, “and given exploration at the project remains at an early stage, suggests that Mt Flora has outstanding potential to emerge as a significant new gold discovery 20 kilometres east of the main Cardinia Gold Project.”

A follow-up 25 hole, 3,169-metre, reverse circulation (RC) drilling program was completed in November.

“Assays are now eagerly awaited, for the 3,169 metres of RC drilling completed at Mt Flora to confirm the extent of the high-grade mineralisation in both the near-surface and primary environment to the north, south and updip of the diamond drill hole section,” the MD said.

"Visual inspection of the RC drill chips shows that the drilling has successfully intersected the interpreted zones of high-grade mineralisation seen in both the aircore and diamond drill programs.”
