Advance Energy updates on Buffalo-10 well progress

The well drilling programme kicked off in late December and is expected to run for around 35 days - so far some 800 of the planned 3,500 metres have been drilled

Advance Energy PLC (AIM:ADV) updated the market on the ongoing Buffalo-10 well, offshore Timor-Leste.

The project operator, Carnarvon Petroleum, informed Advanced Energy drilling has reached 804 metres and will proceed down to target depth of around 3,500 metres.

Buffalo-10 is being drilled to test for the presence of commercial quantities of high-quality light oil, and, promises to lead to the early re-development of the Buffalo field.

Advance Energy said since the company’s last announcement in December, the conductor has been installed and cemented in place, and the 17 ½ inch (diameter) section hole has been drilled.

The rig is now setting and cementing the 13 3/8 inch casing and installing the wellhead, before drilling ahead in the 12 ¼ inch section down to around 2,800 metres. A further section, at a 9 5/8 I inch casing, will then aim for the target in the Elang reservoir.
