YouTube TV to restore access to Disney’s channels

Talks had broken down reportedly due to a carriage dispute between the two

YouTube TV started showing Disney owned channels again on Sunday after the two giants settled a dispute over payment.

Talks had broken down between Google-owner Alphabet’s YouTube and Disney two days earlier, leading to the streaming service removing all of Disney’s channels from its platform, such as ESPN and FX.

It also told its subscribers that it would be reducing the monthly cost from US$64.99 to $49.99 following the removal of Disney’s channels.

We're happy to announce that we've reached a deal with Disney and have already started to restore access to channels like ESPN and FX, and Disney recordings that were previously in your Library. Your local ABC station will also be turning on throughout the day.

Charges for its channels or carriage costs were the cause of the falling out, with Disney reportedly wanting more from YouTube if it wanted to carry its programmes.

YouTube TV said in a statement “We’re happy to share that we’ve reached an agreement with Disney to return their content to YouTube TV while preserving a US$64.99/mo. price for our members.”

“We have already started to restore access to Disney networks like ESPN and FX, including their live and on-demand content, as well as any recordings that were previously in your library.”

“As we promised a US$15 discount while the Disney content remained off platform, we will still honour a one-time credit for all impacted members.”
