Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google has warned all US staff that they could lose their jobs if they fail to comply with the technology company’s COVID-19 vaccination rules.
Google told its workers that they will lose pay, and eventually their jobs, if they don’t declare their vaccination status and upload documentation showing proof, or to apply for a medical or religious exemption, according to internal documents seen by CNBC.
US staff have been given a January 18 deadline to comply with the vaccination rules or face being put on “paid administrative leave” for 30 days. After that, the company will put them on “unpaid personal leave” for up to six months, followed by termination, CNBC reported.
President Joe Biden’s administration has ordered all US companies with more than 100 staff to ensure their workers are vaccinated or undertake regular Coronavirus testing by January 18.
“We expect that almost all roles at Google in the US will fall within the scope of the executive order,” Google’s memo said. “Anyone entering a Google building must be fully vaccinated or have an approved accommodation that allows them to work or come onsite,” it said, adding that “frequent testing is not a valid alternative to vaccination”.
