Ondine Biomedical Inc (AIM:OBI) appointed leading public health expert Professor Trevor Jones to lead a new advisory board on the use of its pioneering photodisinfection-based technology to prevent and treat Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Photodisinfection is a non-antibiotic antimicrobial technology that rapidly destroys pathogens, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus, without causing resistance.
Jones brings his experience as a long-standing adviser to the UK government on public health, having most recently worked extensively on the pandemic response. He is also currently a visiting professor at King's College London and an advisor to the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
"We are delighted that Professor Trevor Jones is joining us to coordinate our COVID-19 advisory board," Ondine chief executive Carolyn Cross said.
Photodisinfection therapy is not new. In Canada, for example, it has been used hospitals and clinics for over a decade.
Ondine’s approach uses laser light to activate photosensitive compounds placed inside the nose to rapidly and painlessly eradicate pathogens, including those associated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus variants.
Its Steriwave technology may also help defuse the ticking time-bomb of multidrug-resistant infections that is at the root of hospital-acquired illnesses.
