Mako Gold Ltd (ASX:MKG) is using a second rig at Napié Gold Project in Côte d’Ivoire with the diamond drill targeting deeper extensional mineralisation that the reverse circulation (RC) rig on-site is unable to reach.
Multiple RC pre-collars have been drilled in anticipation of reaching the deeper targets with the diamond drill rig. All planned drilling at the Tchaga prospect is extensional in nature, intended to add ounces to the upcoming maiden mineral resource estimate for the project.
The RC drill rig will continue to drill on the Gogbala prospect, testing zones alone strike of recent shallow, wide and high-grade intercepts. In particular, Mako Gold is targeting mineralisation south of a section that returned 35 metres at 1.72 g/t gold and 20 metres at 1.92 g/t.
Overall, the company is focused on strengthening its exploration efforts as its moves toward a maiden JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate for Napié, expected to be released in the first half of 2022.
“Towards maiden resource estimate”
“We are very pleased to be accelerating the drill programs on the Tchaga and Gogbala prospects at the Napié Project as we move towards our maiden mineral resource estimate scheduled for the first half of calendar year 2022,” Mako Gold managing director Peter Ledwidge said.
“Having two rigs on the ground will also allow us to test regional targets with the aim of discovering new zones along the 30-kilometre Napié fault for future additional resource definition.
“We anticipate some drill results prior to Christmas with more to come in the new year.”
Mako says it will suspend drilling for two weeks just before Christmas to give its field crew a well-deserved break.
Drilling is scheduled to resume in the first week of January 2022, with some assays from Tchaga and Gogbala expected prior to Christmas and more to come in January.
