Blackbird PLC (AIM:BIRD, OTCQX:BBRDF), the cloud-based video editing platform provider, has won Environmental Sustainability Company of the Year 2021 as part of the broadcasting and media (BaM) awards from the international trade association for broadcast and media technology (IABM).
The award recognises innovative companies that deliver real and tangible environmental benefits to its customers and the world, while the BaMs aim to represent the gold standard for broadcast and media innovation.
IABM said: "Blackbird is spearheading the critical issue of sustainability within the broadcast media and video industry.
"Its cloud-native video production technology has been independently found to generate up to 91% less CO2 at source than on-prem and cloud-based workflows because it requires no special hardware or virtual machine, runs on any laptop, uses only 2Mbps bandwidth, and eliminates travel to venues.”
Blackbird chief executive Ian McDonough said: "We value this award so highly because it embodies our own values [as] the core Blackbird proposition is the reduction of carbon at source without impact on performance or quality.”
The company, which is part of the campaign to drastically reduce carbon emissions in the media industry, released a carbon awareness study called ‘Video shouldn’t cost the Earth’ earlier this year.
In July, it also became one of only 5% of UK-listed companies to have received the London Stock Exchange’s Green Economy Mark to reward it for its efforts in contributing to the green economy.
