KGL Resources strengthens legal skillset with independent non-executive director appointment

“His experience will be extremely beneficial to the company at this stage of the development of the Jervois project," says chair.

KGL Resources Ltd (ASX:KGL) has boosted its energy and resources legal expertise following the appointment of Denis Gately as an independent non-executive director.

Gately is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected energy and resource lawyers and has held a number of directorships in the resources sector.

He served the majority of his legal career with Minter Ellison, one of the Big Six law firms in Australia, serving as head of its National Energy and Resources Industry Group, a member of its national board for nine years and as Brisbane managing partner for six years until his retirement in 2010.

Gately has previously served as director of Gloucester Coal Limited, Alligator Energy Ltd (ASX:AGE) (chair), Xanadu Mines Ltd (ASX:XAM, TSX-V:XAM) (chair) and Resource Generation Limited (chair).

He has led transactions in mineral and oil & gas operations and development projects, both domestic and international, as well as having extensive experience in associated infrastructure.

In announcing Gately’s appointment, KGL chair Peter Hay said that KGL Resources was fortunate to have him agree to join the board: “His experience will be extremely beneficial to the company at this stage of the development of the Jervois project.”

Gately will officially begin today, December 13, 2021, and will assume roles on both the board's audit and risk and remuneration committees.

Jervois Project development

KGL acquired the Jervois Base Metal Project in the Northern Territory in 2011. Since then, the company has defined a JORC resource 20.97 million tonnes at 2.03% copper and 31.9 g/t silver.

The company is pursuing a strategy of increasing the quality and size of the Jervois resource to one that will sustain a mining project in the bottom half of the international cost curve for copper mines before proceeding to mine development.

KGL is now focused on the development studies to determine the optimal development path for the project.

Over 100,000 drill samples have been assayed over the decades at Jervois, the highest grade of which was announced December 8, 2021 of 61.4% copper within a larger intercept of 20.5% copper and 302 g/t silver over 4.21 metres from 698.80 metres downhole
