Gold & silver

Red 5 continues construction and development activities at King of the Hills

November saw a flurry of activity at King of the Hills, the company's flagship gold project in Western Australia, where construction continues to deadline and budget.

Red 5 Ltd (ASX:RED) is progressing well towards its scheduled first production from the King of the Hills Gold Project in the June quarter of 2022.

The company has completed another month of construction and development at the 100%-owned 2.4-million-ounce project in Western Australia.

Construction on the mine, which is expected to have a 16-year lifespan, progressed well in November. A raft of tasks is underway, including:

  • Installation of the 36-foot diameter semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill;
  • Positioning of the plant control room on the carbon-in-leach (CIL) tank platform;
  • Installation of the stacker conveyor, the truss sections for conveyors, and the gyratory crusher’s bottom shell, mantle, top shell and ROM bin;
  • Construction of the ROM wall;
  • Painting of the interior and exterior walls of the CIL tanks; and
  • Completion of the stockpile reclaim tunnel and two apron feeders.

SAG mill shell, motors, girth gear, mill lubrication skid and process plant control room now in position.

Power to the King

The power station switch room and engine hall are now in place, with two gas engines and diesel generators for the plant start-up installed. Four Jenbacher 624 engines were installed in the engine hall in early December.

Delivery and installation of the Jenbacher gas turbine engines as at December 6 (pictured within Zenith’s power station building).

Fifty power transmission poles for the plant-to-village power corridor have been erected to date.

The company has also completed the hot tap into the Goldfields Gas Pipeline. Installation of the 13-kilometre gas lateral pipeline is in train and should be completed by February of the coming year.

On track to first gold

“We didn’t miss a beat during November, as key elements of this new state-of-the-art gold mine take shape," managing director Mark Williams said.

“Some of the more notable achievements during November included significant progress with the installation of the imposing 36-foot diameter SAG mill, the arrival of the process plant control room and erection of the stacker conveyor.

“The site continues to be a hive of activity as we power on towards our goal of achieving first gold production in the June quarter of 2022 – the countdown to production is well and truly on.”

Earthworks for the wall lift on Tailings Storage Facility 4A and 4B are also nearing completion.

More updates are expected in January as the company moves closer to first gold production.

Red 5 has released a construction flyover video from December 6, 2021:
