Open Orphan PLC (AIM:ORPH, OTC:OPORF) has hailed positive results from a phase IIa study of a new seasonal flu treatment, developed by SAB Biotherapeutics.
The randomised, placebo-controlled trial was carried out at a specialist facility operated by Open Orphan’s subsidiary, hVIVO, using its influenza human challenge study model.
SAB-176, the treatment assessed at the hVIVO centre, met its ‘primary endpoint’.
"Influenza affects a significant proportion of the global population every year with symptoms ranging from mild to severe, with hospitalisations and deaths occurring among high-risk groups,” said Open Orphan chairman, Cathal Friel.
“hVIVO has successfully been delivering Influenza human challenge trials for over two decades, and we look forward to continuing to support big pharma and biotechs to provide early proof-of-concept for novel vaccines and antivirals."
