STEM Genesis to use crypto to tackle climate change

The group aims to create a decentralised finance eco-system to fund projects around the world

STEM Genesis (TSX:GDC), a decentralised finance investment fund for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) innovation, is to launch a range of crypto and non-fungible token (NFT).

Its first NFT sale, called Pixel Pongos, is set to take place on December 12, with the group releasing 10,000 ‘Pongos’ for sale into ‘The Metaverse.’

The company hopes to use the proceeds from its first NFT sale, and any subsequent NFT sale, to develop its own crypto coin and decentralised finance eco-system to support STEM projects globally.

Dr Jackie Lighten, founder of STEM Genesis said the platform will “create a new approach to fund research and applied technology irrespective of national or institutional affiliations.”

Any future coin would also allow for direct investment into any partnered STEM projects, as well as giving benefits to holders, such as a subsidised energy bill from a green electric company.

The group, which was founded by several UK scientists, will specifically aim to secure funding for those projects that help meet the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

STEM Genesis claims it has been approached by developers, artists, manufacturers of ‘green’ products and academic institutions, demonstrating that interest in the project does exist.
