Tamboran Resources Ltd (ASX:TBN) has closed the books on its 2021 drilling campaign in one of the Northern Territory’s most prolific natural gas regions.
The energy stock owns 25% of the EP161 exploration permit, which makes up a key component of the McArthur Basin's core Beetaloo Sub-Basin and hosts the Tanumbirini 1, 2H and 3H wells.
Santos QNT Pty Ltd is working alongside Tamboran to drill the oil and gas assets, while TBN also owns a 100% stake in the EP 136, Ep 143 and EP(A) 197 properties.
Over November, EP161’s Tanumbirini 3H well was successfully cased and cemented, meaning the Easternwell rig has moved off location.
In addition, Tamboran kickstarted a fracture stimulation program over the Tanumbirini 2H and 3H natural gas wells, with initial flow test results expected before year’s end.

Conducted safely and without incident
Speaking in Monday’s operational update, Tamboran CEO and managing director Joel Riddle said: “Tamboran announces that the 2021 drilling program in EP 161 has been completed by our joint venture partner Santos QNT Pty Ltd.
Production casing in T3H has been set and cemented and the Easternwell Rig 106 has been demobilised from the Beetaloo Sub-basin.
“Importantly, the 2021 drilling program was conducted safely and without incident, a testament to the excellent leadership and unwavering commitment to health, safety and environment by the rig crew.
“The EP 161 joint venture will now test the productivity of each well, with approximately 10 stages of fracture stimulations per well in the target formation of the Mid-Velkerri ‘B’. Initial flow test results are expected in December 2021.
“The 2021 drilling program in EP 161 has provided Tamboran with key learnings and knowledge that we intend to incorporate into the drilling of the 100% owned and operated Maverick 1H, located in EP 136, during 2022.”
