BT opens flagship London HQ

The telecoms group said it still “firmly believes” in the future of the office and is adopting hybrid working

BT Group PLC (LSE:BT.A) opened its new global headquarters in Aldgate, London as part of its transformation programme.

The building, known as One Braham, will house 3,500 staff, the telecoms company said in a statement.

Under its transformation programme, which will complete in 2024, BT is rationalising hundreds of offices across the UK to create an estate of high-tech workspaces.

Although many employees changed to home working as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, BT said it still “firmly believes” in the future of the office and is adopting a hybrid, flexible approach where teams will choose how staff spend time between home and the office.

The new HQ boasts smart building technology, flexible workspaces and collaboration areas. It has hot desk facilities where staff work in ‘neighbourhoods’ according to their business function.

Philip Jansen, BT chief executive, said: “We’re really excited to be moving into One Braham. It represents a changing BT, one that is more agile, forward thinking and able to adapt to the challenges and opportunities presented by the acceleration of digital technologies."
