Great Bear Resources discovers 'Midwest' zone at flagship Red Lake project; unveils new LP fault drill results

The new Midwest zone sits 275 metres (m) northwest of the Hinge zone and 250m south of the Dixie Limb zone and a hole showed 20.27 grams per ton (g/t) gold over 1.75m starting from a depth of 812.35m

Great Bear Resources (TSX-V:GBR) Ltd has announced a new, high-grade gold discovery called the 'Midwest' zone at its flagship Dixie project in Red Lake as the firm also unveiled the latest drill assays from the LP fault zone, where it continues to hit "significant" gold mineralization.

The new Midwest zone sits 275 metres (m) northwest of the Hinge zone and 250m south of the Dixie Limb zone and a hole showed 20.27 grams per ton (g/t) gold over 1.75m starting from a depth of 812.35m.

The total mineralized interval was 5.69 g/t of the yellow metal over an intercept of 7.05m starting from 809.95m depth, noted Great Bear.

The company said its drilling and data so far suggest additional basalt-basalt contacts may occur southwest of the LP Fault zone, meaning it has yet more new drill targets.

At Dixie, the most significant discovery has been the large-scale LP fault zone, where drilling has so far identified gold mineralization along 11 kilometres (km) of strike and a detailed drill grid is being completed along around 4km. Near to the LP fault zone sit the Hinge, Limb, Midwest and Arrow gold zones.

"We recently resumed drilling near the Hinge and Limb zones and discovered a new, high-grade gold zone west of those targets," said CEO Chris Taylor in a statement.

"The new 'Midwest' zone closely resembles the style of gold mineralization observed at the Dixie Limb zone; both occur at the sheet-like contacts between different basalt units and consist of silica-sulphide replacement style mineralization including high-grade gold," he added.

"In addition to drilling other new, untested basalt contacts, the company will re-enter and extend previously drilled holes into the Midwest area. Additionally, ongoing drilling of the LP Fault zone continues to return significant gold intervals at depths ranging from bedrock surface to over 600 vertical metres."

At the LP fault zone, current holes have targeted the zone at various points along 2.9km of strike, between bedrock surface and around 600m vertical depth.

Results have included 66.30 g/t gold over 0.50m from 407.30m depth. This was within a broader interval assaying 6.15 g/t gold over 7.2m from 406.80m depth.

Shallower LP Fault drill holes were also completed to fill in gaps of up to 100m in past drilling and highlights included 0.59 g/t gold over 65.7m from 28.5m to 94.20m downhole.

Another hole returned 32.40 g/t gold over 0.50m from 72.10m downhole, within a broader interval assaying 1.62 g/t gold over 11.2m from 66.70m depth, said Great Bear.

The wholly-owned Dixie project in Ontario boasts one of the largest recent gold discoveries in Canada and is close to major infrastructure in the town of Red Lake.

The Dixie property comprises over 91.4 square kilometres (sq km) of contiguous claims that extend over 22km with a paved highway and provincial power and natural gas lines.
