Alpha Financial to beat expectations as ESG tide raises revenues

"The ESG & Responsible Investment practice has been well received by clients"

Alpha Financial Market Consulting PLC said it saw strong growth in all geographies in its latest half-year and now expects to beat full-year expectations.

Revenues rose 44% to £68.4mln in the six months to end September 2021, the fund management industry consultant said, helped by growing demand for Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) advice from the sector.

Alpha's North America region and Europe & APAC region reported strong net fee income growth, it said, while recent acquisition Lionpoint also performed well since its purchase and boosted Alpha’s presence in the US.

Euan Fraser, chief executive, added: "We have seen a strong performance in the Alpha Group over the first half of the financial year.

“The ESG & Responsible Investment practice has been well received by clients and we are meeting a growing demand in this important space.

“The group is adding to its teams globally and investing in key strategic hires to expand our service offerings. Consequently, we continue to win new clients and remain confident to deliver on the ambition we announced in November 2020 to double the size of the business.

“The group enters the second half in robust shape, and we are delighted to upgrade our full-year expectations.”

Interim underlying profits rose to £14.4mln (£9.1mln), though pre-tax profits fell to £4.2mln (£4.5mln) after adjusting for acquisitions and share-based payments.

The interim dividend rises to 2.9p (2.1p).
