Maximus Resources Ltd (ASX:MXR) has identified several priority targets at the Central prospect within the Kambalda nickel district in WA with ground-based Fixed Loop Electromagnetic (FLEM) surveying, heightening the company’s understanding of the prospective area.
Two shallow priority late time conductors, 2200N (8,750 Siemens) and Sully (16,000 Siemens), were pinpointed immediately along strike from Estrella Resources’ historical Andrews Shaft and 1A Nickel Mines, which produced 112,000 tonnes at 3.8% nickel in 2007.
The majority of the conductors identified through FLEM surveying dip steeply to the west, consistent with the interpreted stratigraphy (nature of the layered geology) within the Spargoville tenement.

“Very prospective stratigraphy”
“The ground-based EM survey has returned several encouraging results, including the identification of two shallow strong late time conductors. The conductors appear to give a similar EM response to the known nickel sulphide mineralisation at the 1A nickel mine,” Maximus Resources managing director Tim Wither said.
“The priority conductors are in very prospective stratigraphy and located between the two historic nickel mines. These targets have never been drilled and Maximus has incorporated these new highly prospective zones into the ongoing exploration program.”
Maximus has used results from EM surveys over the known mineralised area to assist in the interpretation of new conductors.
An EM survey of the historic 1A Nickel Mine’s known mineralisation returned a modelled conductance of 8,350 Siemens – exceeded by 2200N and Sully – and in 2008 returned drill intercepts of 7.3 metres at 6.9% nickel from 183 metres and 5.6 metres at 4.2% nickel from 146 metres.
Forward plan
MXR is currently planning an initial reconnaissance drill testing program for the 2200N and Sully targets, to be incorporated into the current multi-target drill program. Further details will be provided as the multi-target program progresses.
The Hilditch West maiden diamond drill hole has also been completed with a Down Hole Electromagnetic (DHEM) survey in the process of being modelled. Samples from the drill core have already been submitted for analytical assays.
