Flynn Gold (ASX:FG1) Ltd has revealed visible and high-grade gold during a sampling campaign over three key prospects within the Golden Ridge Project in Tasmania.
The precious metals explorer has received assays from 33 rock chip samples collected from outcrop, float and historical workings at Golden Ridge’s Blinding, Link Zone and Trafalgar prospects.
Overall, the results demonstrate that reconnaissance rock samples support an extensive gold system over 3 kilometres of strike at the Golden Ridge Project.
What’s more, visible gold was spotted at the Trafalgar and Link Zone prospects, with preliminary assays grading up to 61 g/t gold.
Results are pending for a further 169 surface rock samples collected over the broader project area.
In the meantime, Flynn has additional field trenching and soil sampling programs planned to continue developing gold targets for future drilling campaigns.
Drill rigs are also turning the soil at the Brilliant prospect, with assays pending.
Shares hit new record
Securities have been up as much as 17.2% to 20.5 cents intraday, a new record high for the company.
Unlocking the potential of gold system
Speaking to the findings, Flynn Gold (ASX:FG1) executive director Sam Garrett said: “These high-grade gold results, taken across a 3-kilometre strike that remains open between the Blinding and Trafalgar prospects, provide strong support to our understanding of this intrusive-related gold system (IRGS) target and are further evidence that there is real potential for a large-scale gold system at Golden Ridge.
“These IRGS-type gold deposits are typically large and have not been recognised or targeted in Tasmania previously.
“The company is very focused on unlocking the potential of this system with targeted work programs in progress, designed to optimise our understanding of the system and deliver new targets for drill testing.”
Trafalgar
Recent reconnaissance sampling at Trafalgar comes after visible gold was identified in quartz veins around shallow historical workings and newly identified outcrop, which was previously unsampled.
Seven rock chip samples were taken, of which four returned high-grade gold assays between 8.56 g/t and 61.0 g/t gold.
Significantly, one sample — taken from a newly located outcrop of ferruginous, sericite altered and quartz veined granodiorite — returned 10.9 g/t.
A previous diamond drill hole, completed by Tamar Gold in 2013, intersected a zone of quartz-sulphide veining which assayed 5 metres at 12.56 g/t from 202 metres, which was also hosted within altered granodiorite.
Historical workings at Trafalgar include a number of small pits with larger shafts and small costeans.
The gold target lies 2.5 kilometres east of the Golden Ridge’s famed Brilliant prospect.
Link Zone
Twelve rock chip samples were collected across the Link Zone area during the recent reconnaissance sampling, with seven of these returning anomalous assays ranging between 0.1 g/t and 8.31 g/t gold.
One sample from float material surrounding a historical, shallow open pit contained fine-grain visible gold, returned 6.3 g/t.
Another nearby assay did one better, recording 8.31 g/t.
Golden Ridge’s Link Zone target is defined by a 2.5-kilometre-long ridge along the Golden Ridge granodiorite-metasediment contact between the Brilliant and Trafalgar prospects.
Previous rock chip sampling over the zone has returned elevated to anomalous gold assays, with up to 6.24 g/t reported from comb quartz veined, limonite-hematite stained sandstone.
Blinding
Fourteen reconnaissance grab samples were collected over a 350-metre by 350-metre area at the Blinding target.
Of these, seven samples returned anomalous assays ranging between 0.24 and 2.83 g/t.
The Blinding prospect is 500 metres west of Brilliant and is defined by a zone of ferruginous quartz veining, which occurs in silicified metasediments adjacent to the granodiorite contact.
What’s next?
Geologic mapping and sampling continue across the broader Golden Ridge project area.
Moving forward, Flynn Gold (ASX:FG1) has plans to carry out soil sampling and surface trenching at the Trafalgar, Link Zone and Blinding prospects — pending the approval of an exploration work program proposal, which was submitted to Mineral Resources Tasmania in October 2021.
In addition, the company plans to drill a government co-funded drill hole at Trafalgar, following the completion of the Brilliant prospect drilling program.
Results from a further 169 surface rocks samples are also awaited.
Ultimately, these are expected to assist with ongoing field targeting at Golden Ridge.
