Eclipse Metals initial field analysis of Greenland sites indicates rare earth content

Eclipse Metals Ltd (ASX:EPM) reports that field samples from its Ivittuut project licence in Greenland have landed in Perth, Western Australia, and will be sent to local laboratories for detailed chemical and mineralogical analysis.

In initial hand-held XRF field testing surface grab samples from the Gronnedal-Ika carbonation intrusive returned indications of significant rare earth element (REE) content.

This is promising for the company, which is also investigating the potential to re-establish a port facility at the land-backed wharf – a jumping-off point for future exports of quartz, cryolite and fluorite mineralisation through the redevelopment of the historical Ivittuut pit in southwest Greenland.

Samples collected

During helicopter reconnaissance, samples were collected from the Ivittuut mine dumps and tailings and the Gronnedal-Ika carbonatite intrusive. These have now been received in Perth and sent to local laboratories for detailed chemical and mineralogical analysis.

The XRF results taken from outcrops at Gronnedal-Ika indicate potentially significant REE content, but this cannot be verified. These samples are among those that have also arrived in Perth.

About the Ivittuut Project

Ivittuut, in southwestern Greenland, has sufficient infrastructure to support mineral exploration, including a power station, fuel supplies and local traffic.

About 5.5 kilometres to the northeast of Ivittuut, the twin settlements of Kangilinnguit and Gronnedal respectively provide a heliport and an active wharf.

The Gronnedal-Ika carbonatite complex is less than 10 kilometres from Ivittuut and only 5 kilometres from the port of Gronnedal. It is also one of the 12 larger Gardar alkaline intrusions in Greenland and is recognised as one of the prime REE targets.
