The FTSE 100 made small early gains helped by the big corporate news from Shell. The blue-chip index added 14 to 7,362 in early deals.
Shell has given a big boost to the UK by announcing plans to drop its Anglo-Dutch dual share structure and shift its HQ to London from the Hague. The group’s name will also change from Royal Dutch Shell to just Shell.
Cineworld, the worlds-second largest cinema chain, reported revenue that topped pre-pandemic levels in the UK in October. The company put the performance down to a string of blockbuster film releases, such as James Bond No Time to Die and Black Widow.
Serco, the test and trace operator, has raised its forecasts for the full year thanks to coronavirus (COVID-19) work running for longer than anticipated. It now expects revenue to be £4.4bn for the year and underlying profits to be no less than £225mln or 12.5% higher the previously forecast.
