SigmaRoc PLC (AIM:SRC) told investors that its Greenbloc product has become the first cement-free concrete block to achieve an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
The company, in a statement, noted that the EPD – which is deemed a ‘type III environmental declaration’ – provides provides transparent and credible information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its lifecycle.
It marks a significant next step for Greenbloc and its potential as a one-for-one replacement of traditional cement based concrete blocks, SigmaRoc said.
"Greenbloc receiving the EPD is a significant milestone for our ultra-low carbon building block,” chief executive Max Vermorken highlighted.
“Many large developers require EPD certification to ensure the environmental and technical credentials of the product are independently certified. Making such progress in such short time again shows the relentless drive to innovate within PPG and SigmaRoc."
Michael Roddy, managing director for SigmaRoc’s Precast Products Group, added: “This is another great achievement by our technical and research teams as we prepare to launch a full range of ultra-low carbon concrete products from January 2022.
“EDP is critical within the industry as all parts of the supply chain rely on certified environmental credentials. For PPG this is, however, just a first step, with many more to follow."
