Melkior Resources says Kirkland Lake Gold set to start another drill program on the Carscallen gold property in Ontario

As the operator, Kirkland Lake Gold is planning a 3,700-metre program across four targets to be completed before the end of 2021

Melkior Resources Inc said that drilling has now started on the Carscallen project, an Ontario-based gold property currently optioned by Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd.

As the operator, Kirkland Lake Gold is planning a 3,700-metre program across four targets to be completed before the end of 2021.

Timmins-based Melkior and Kirkland Lake entered into an agreement in September 2020 that gives Kirkland the right to earn up to a 75% interest in Carscallen by incurring exploration expenditures of $100 million within the first five years of the formation of the joint venture.

“We are very excited that drilling has resumed at Carscallen,” Melkior CEO Jonathon Deluce said in a statement.

“We look forward to evaluating these new and reinterpreted targets developed by a strong technical operator through a review of historical work and a summer field program that best positions the project for further drill success. The Carscallen project has continued to demonstrate the potential to be a high-grade gold system with continuity amongst numerous zones. With every drill program, we push to make that game-changing discovery hole, and we are confident that we have the best partner to achieve this goal,” he added.

Meanwhile, Melkior reported sampling results from a summer program at Carscallen.

A total of 64 out of 73 total rock samples collected returned greater than 0.50 grams per ton (g/t) gold, with 34 samples coming in at over 5 g/t and the highest being 71.9 g/t.

The samples were taken from north of the Zam Zam North, Jowsey, Mystery South, and Behemoth zones, where drill targets have been identified for testing, according to Melkior.

The company noted that the results will help establish a better understanding of the setting of the gold mineralization on the property and will lead to new targets for exploration.
