Lucid delivers its first electric vehicles

The Dream Edition Range is the first EV to achieve an estimated 520 miles on a single charge

Lucid Group Inc (NASDAQ:LCID) said it has delivered the first of its electric vehicles (EVs), with chief executive Peter Rawlinson accompanying the company’s first customer on a drive in the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range.

A number of customers with reservations were invited to a special event in California and collected the first of the EVs, before being invited to take their inaugural drive.

The start-up Tesla rival announced in late September that it would begin production of the vehicles in early October and make first deliveries by the end of the month.

The Dream Edition Range is the longest-range electric car rated by the US Environmental Protection Agency, having been accredited as the first EV to achieve 520 miles on a single charge.

Lucid confirmed it will only be making 520 of this model, which is priced at US$169,000.

Lucid has more than 13,000 reservations for its other, cheaper models, which it aims to start delivering to customers in 2022.

Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of Lucid, and former designer at Tesla, said at the event, “I am truly excited to hand the keys to our first dear customers and accompany them on an inaugural drive through the iconic California countryside.”

"This is a big day. We always said until we've handed cars to customers, we haven't achieved a damn thing,"

The company is set to report its third-quarter results on 15 November

Lucid Group shares opened 8% lower at US$33.63 on Tuesday.
