Coronavirus: UK to remove all countries from red list in nod to travel industry

It won’t be a massive change as only seven locations were deemed ‘high risk'

The UK government has announced it will remove all countries from the red list for international travel as of Monday.

It won’t be a massive change as only seven locations – Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru and Venezuela – were deemed ‘high risk’.

It means that passengers entering England will no longer be required to quarantine in a hotel at their own expense.

The Department for Transport said that Delta is now the dominant variant in most countries around the world, so the risk of known variants entering the UK is lower.

Westminster will still keep an eye on levels of infection abroad and review the list if necessary.

“This is another step in the right direction for international travel with more good news today for passengers, businesses and the travel sector,” said Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

Cruise operator Carnival plc rose 2% to 1,483.6p on Friday afternoon, while British Airways owner International Consolidated Airlns Grp SA was flat at 162.72p.
