Premier Foods unveils new ESG strategy

It will be focused on its product offering, its impact on the planet and on people

Premier Foods plc unveiled a new Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy focused on its product offering, its impact on the planet and on people.

The Mr Kipling and Bisto owner plans to more than double the sales of products that meet high nutrition standards by 2030, from the current £300mln.

Plus, around £250mln of sales will come from plant-based products over the next nine years, such as Sharwood's Vegan cooking sauces and Mr Kipling 30% less sugar cake slices.

In terms of environmental impact, the FTSE 250 group plans to reduce its scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieve net-zero for direct emissions by 2040.

It will also introduce ‘science-based targets’ aligned with the 'Business Ambition for 1.5' as well as halving food waste by 2030.

As for people, it plans to reach a gender balance for senior management before the end of the decade while it will donate 1mln meals per year to people experiencing food poverty.

"Over the last few years, we have made some very good progress against our previous ESG strategy and we are proud of the achievements that we have made so far. We have evolved rapidly as a business over the last eighteen months and we now have ambitions which are much bigger and bolder,” said chief executive Alex Whitehouse.
