NextEnergy Solar Fund Ltd (LSE:NESF) highlighted that its investment manager, NextEnergy Capital (NEC), released its 2021 sustainable development goals report ahead of the COP26 climate summit that starts Sunday.
The investment trust said the report demonstrates NEC's commitment to the highest levels of transparency and disclosure, highlighting NEC's and therefore also NESF's contributions to climate change mitigation and to positive global societal impacts.
“By offering investors an opportunity to decarbonise their portfolio, NEC is consistently facilitating the transition towards sustainable energy while simultaneously contributing to other social targets and community benefits,” a statement said.
Since the fund listed in London in 2014, NEC recorded that the portfolio generated 3,459 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean, renewable energy, which has avoided the release of 1,490 kilotons of CO2e into the atmosphere.
The energy generated is enough to power around 900,000 homes sustainably, or removing more than 500,000 of petrol or diesel cars from the road.
Giulia Guidi, head of ESG at NEC, commented: “With COP26 around the corner, there has never been a more important time to highlight NESF's tangible ESG and sustainability benefits. The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a crucial framework for NEC to consistently measure progress towards our commitment and each year we continue to enhance the transparency of all of our funds' sustainability and ESG reporting. We also continue to work alongside specialist sustainability third party advisors to ensure the quality and accuracy of our data is best in class.”
