Apple expected to unveil more powerful Mac - report

The new MacBook Pro models are expected to feature a more powerful generation of the company's in-house-designed chip, Reuters reported

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is expected to unveil new Mac laptops with more powerful processors at an event that will be streamed later today.

The expected MacBook Pro introduction comes weeks after the US tech giant overhauled its iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad lineup, Reuters reported.

The company has already fitted some MacBooks as well as Mac Minis and iMacs with a first generation in-house-designed M1 chip.

The new MacBook Pro models are expected to feature a more powerful generation of the company's chip, according to the report.

Mac sales boomed during the pandemic as people bought tech hardware to work or study from home. Revenue rose 11% to US$28.6 bn in Apple's fiscal 2020.

Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple plans to release two new MacBook Pro models with 14-inch and 16-inch screens.

Reuters reported that some analysts believe Apple will also update its AirPods wireless ear buds.

Apple shares were broadly flat at US$144.66 in pre-market trade.
