W Resources PLC (AIM:WRES) has rejigged the management at its La Parrilla tungsten mine as executive director Pablo Neira announced he will step down from the board with effect from 18 October to take on a role outside the mining industry.
Neira became managing director of W's Spanish subsidiary, Iberian Resources Spain (IRS), and executive director of W in November 2020 and played a key role in strengthening the company's performance and developing a strong and independent management team at its La Parrilla tungsten mine, the company said.
“I am pleased with the progress and achievements at La Parrilla Mine in Spain and the management team have made great progress over the past months. In my new role however, I am unable to continue on the board,” said Neira who will now manage a Spanish private fund based in Madrid.
“I remain very supportive of the project and fantastic team and I look forward to witnessing its ongoing success," he said.
The company said it will ensure that La Parrilla remains on track to achieve its production targets in the months ahead.
Jesus Martin has been appointed operations manager responsible for running and managing the mine at La Parrilla, while the finance function will continue to be managed by the finance team at the plant, who will now report directly to W’s chief financial officer Paul Hailes, who will visit La Parrilla monthly.
As of 1 September, Hailes will switch from being part-time to a full-time CFO and he will liaise between the management team at La Parrilla and the W board where he will take on the civil, legal and corporate governance responsibilities for IRS until a new managing director of IRS has been appointed. The company is currently interviewing potential candidates for the managing director position.
Marcos Lindo has been appointed mine manager at La Parrilla and Juan Garcia Valledor is now head of Environmental, Health & Safety.
In a separate statement, W announced it had appointed Ismael Cabanillas Verde to the board as a non-executive director with immediate effect.
“We are delighted to welcome Ismael Cabanillas Verde to the board,” said W chairman Michael Masterman. “He has a wealth of experience in the Spanish business environment which will enhance and strengthen the board.”
