Caracal hits high grade gold in ongoing sampling at Kilimapesa

Reverse circulation and diamond drilling programmes are planned for later in the year.

Caracal Gold PLC (LSE:GCAT) has released positive sampling results from ongoing work at the Kilimapesa gold mining and processing operation in Kenya.

The company is undertaking an initial shallow trenching programme on high priority targets on the newly targeted southern mineralized zone ahead of the commencement of planned reverse circulation and diamond drilling programmes later in the year.

The peak trench sample result rang in at 40 metres grading 4.85 grams per tonne gold, including seven metres at 7.6 grams.

Other highlights included individual samples of one metre 15.08 grams and one meter at 5.1 grams.

Trenching work is continuing and is now looking to expose the southern contact of mineralisation in the six trenches across an initial strike length of 125 metres, out of an approximate seven kilometres of potential strike length.

Bulk samples from the first trenches will now also be excavated and used for further testwork and analysis.

"Our focus at Caracal is on rapidly delivering on our strategy of becoming a plus-50,000 ounces per annum producer and building a JORC compliant resource base of plus-three million ounces within the next 12-18 months,” said Robbie McCrae, chief executive of Caracal.

“Whilst we will continue to increase production at our Kilimapesa gold mining and processing operations, in parallel with this we will be focused on our aggressive acquisition strategy and on our exploration activities on our mining and prospecting licenses at Kilimapesa where the potential to increase our resource base is significant.”
