Mason Graphite Inc (TSX-V:LLG, OTCQX:MGPHF)., through its joint venture company Black Swan Graphene Inc., has been granted a US patent and two Canadian patents for the apparatus and method for bulk production of atomically thin 2-dimensional (2D) materials including graphene.
All told, the company said Black Swan’s patent portfolio now stands at 16, covering Europe, Canada, and the US and consolidating its leading position in the high-shear liquid phase exfoliation process for graphene and other 2D materials.
Mason Graphite noted that the graphene produced from the patented manufacturing process owned by Black Swan and produced by its strategic shareholder Thomas Swan & Co. Ltd., can be used as an additive in multiple applications, such as concrete, polymers, inks, coatings, and batteries -- delivering features such as better abrasion resistance, reduced weight, and enhanced thermal and electrical conductivity.

The process patents offer a modular, scalable production capability which Black Swan intends to exploit as market demand expands.
“The grant of the American and Canadian patents to Black Swan Graphene’s extensive portfolio of graphene and other 2D materials processes, enhances the Company’s leadership position and supports the expansion of its products and production,“ said Harry Swan, chairman of Black Swan, in a statement.
Black Swan is a private company jointly owned by Mason Graphite (66.7%) and Thomas Swan (33.3%) that is focused on the large-scale production and commercialization of patented high-performance, low-cost graphene products
