ReNeuron 'pleased to be back on track' with phase IIa eye disease trial

With the remaining people in the study expected to be treated by the end of the year, researchers are slated to present early efficacy data from the expansion cohort in the first quarter of 2022

ReNeuron Group PLC (AIM:RENE, FRA:RQE1) said it received regulatory approval to restart recruitment in all geographies for its phase IIa human retinal progenitor (hRPC) cell therapy trial, treating patients with degenerative eye disease retinitis pigmentosa.

With the remaining people in the study expected to be treated by the end of the year, researchers are slated to present early efficacy data from the expansion cohort in the first quarter of 2022.

ReNeuron said it remains on schedule for advancing the programme into the next clinical trial by the end of next year.

Chief executive Olav Hellebø said: "We are pleased to be back on track, having received the required regulatory approvals and now recruiting in all our target geographies for our phase IIa clinical trial of our hRPC cell therapy candidate in retinitis pigmentosa."

The study was halted in June after a single patient presented with an eye infection.
