Zaim Credit Systems PLC (LSE:ZAIM) said it issued a record number of loans in the three months to end December.
Loans issued rose to £6.3mln in the quarter, compared with £5.21mln three months earlier and £1.6mln a year ago.
Defaults are also rising with the total for the March quarter at 20.8%, though this reflects a strategy to grow market share as quickly as possible and the growth in online loans Zaim said.
The Standard-listed sub-prime lender said it continued to trade profitably in the June quarter, making it the fourth consecutive quarter of profitable growth, a statement said.
Siro Cicconi, Zaim's chief executive, said; “In the second quarter of 2021 we have continued to perform well and the growth in the business remains strong with a 24% quarter-on-quarter increase in loans issued.
“Crucially important is that fact that nearly all of Zaim's business with the exception of some flagship and legacy stores is now generated through our online channel.
“Our continued investment in our proprietary platform and process, including the launch of mobile application, which represents an additional sales channel and a significant growth driver of the business, makes us confident that the online part of the business is now very well positioned to capture further market share.”
