Mitchells and Butlers said sales recovered almost to 2019 levels since reopening on 17 May following the easing of Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, but the market remains uncertain.
In its most recent eight weeks, trading exceeded two years ago, the Harvester, Toby Carvery, All Bar One and Miller & Carter owner said. However performances were mixed with food doing better than drink-focused outlets.
Trading continues to be stronger in suburban and food-led brands, particularly at the more premium end of the market, a statement said.
Phil Urban, chief executive, added: "We are encouraged by the improvement in sales performance following the easing of restrictions.
“However, we are still seeing volatility and a contrast between sales performance at food led and wet-led brands, highlighting the continuing uncertainty.”
Total revenue for the 51 weeks to 18 September 2021 was around 45% of pre-COVID-19 levels said the statement, but had run at 97% since May and at 104% in the most recent eight weeks.
